The California Highway Patrol reported the big-rig was stuck in a gully, which fire officials said was difficult to access. There was concern that the tanker was leaking.
The Alameda County Fire Department's Haz Mat Team had the opportunity to determine if there was a leak of any fluid from the big rig trailer unit.
ACFD received reports that the driver lost control around a sharp turn and went off the road. The big rig is about 100 yards from the nearby lake, but didn't pose a threat, even if it leaked, according to hazmat officials.
The initial fluid that leaked was coolant from the tractor.
Officials will remain on the scene while a cleanup company works on removing the fluids and the truck.
It will take five to six hours at least. The road will remain closed until then.
No major injuries were reported and fire personnel said the driver was declining transport to a hospital.
