SAUSALITO, Calif. (KGO) -- A pair of fast-moving brush fires that burned in Marin County a mile north of the Robin Williams tunnel Tuesday afternoon briefly prompted evacuations and forced the California Highway Patrol to temporarily close all lanes of southbound Highway 101 at Spencer Avenue.

All lanes of southbound Highway 101 were blocked as fire personnel and the California Highway Patrol responded to the fire. Drivers were warned to expect delays and avoid the area if possible.
At least one lane of the highway reopened around 3:05 p.m., but traffic in the area was still severely backed up as of 4 p.m.

The fires burned one to two acres each. Fire officials were investigating the cause.
