Person rescued after car plunges over 300-foot cliff on Hwy 1 in Santa Cruz Co., CHP says

DAVENPORT, Calif. (KGO) -- California Highway Patrol says a car plunged over the edge of a cliff, 300 feet down into sea waters and a person is in critical condition, following a collision just north of the Scott Creek Bridge in Davenport.
Cal Fire said the incident happened around 2:35 p.m. between Scott Creek Beach and Greyhound Rock off Highway 1.



There was only one person in the vehicle. The 61-year-old driver, identified as a man from San Carlos, was transported to Stanford Medical Center with major injuries, Officer Jennifer Simmons said.

All southbound lanes on Highway 1 were closed for the recovery of the vehicle before reopening later Friday afternoon.

Major equipment was called in to tow the vehicle, along with emergency medical help.
