SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) -- A driver plunged a car into the pool of a home in Santa Clara at the corner of Calabazas Boulevard and Warburton Avenue.

The driver came across the sidewalk, through two fences and into the pool.

"The person went through two fences before landing in a pool, that's kind of shocking," said Vickie Fairchild, who lives nearby where the crash happened.

The 19-year-old driver did manage to get out of the car unharmed. He blames the accident on lack of sleep.

"I took the turn too wide, was falling asleep, and crashed," said the driver.
Firefighters inspected the car and determined they couldn't do anything to get it out. A crane will be used to hoist the car.

Santa Clara police say he passed all field sobriety tests.

To complicate matters even more, the homeowners are away on vacation and they're now responsible for cleanup.

The car has since been removed from the pool.
