OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- A beloved retired CHP motorcycle officer got a very special escort in Oakland Thursday.

Angelo Costanzo served with the CHP and Alameda County Sheriff's Department for 28 years.

He was recently hospitalized with health problems and it was quite a scene as he left the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland on Thursday.

The guys he once rode alongside honored him by riding alongside him again as he was moved to a nearby care center.

"We did many things together. I rode with him for many years. We did a lot of activities, a lot of details, including the Raider escort s, basketball escorts, and all kinds of other good stuff," Sgt. Ubaldo Ferreria told ABC7 News.

Being a CHP officer is a family affair -- Angelo's son Nick is now with the force.

We wish Angelo a speedy recovery!
