OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- A dead whale was found washed up in Oakland's inner harbor Saturday.

The U.S. Army Corps of engineers towed it away to keep it out of ship traffic.

Officials with the Marine Mammal Center tell ABC7 News is the female sub-adult fin or blue whale measuring 40 to 60 feet in length.

Biologists will wait until the weather conditions improve before performing a necropsy to determine the cause of death.
