It happened at 10 p.m. Sunday at Moeser Lane and Kearney Street in a residential area across the street from a strip mall which is anchored by a 24 Hour Fitness.
"At first the calls were coming from the residential area as well as reports that someone had been shot in the gym, which is right across the street, at least outside of it. So officers circulated both areas and then found somebody who had been shot in the residential area. That man is in his 40s. I don't have any identifying information. He sustained a gunshot wound injury that does not appear to be life-threatening," said Captain De La Campa.
He said the man who was shot was armed.
"Not with a firearm, with another type of weapon, but we won't describe what it is just yet," said Capt. De La Campa.

He would not say whether the officer lives in the area. He also wouldn't say whether the officer faces the possibility of arrest or if the shooting appears to be justified.
"I really do not have any information as to the outcome or what happened in the confrontation between the two of them. This is a very active investigation. People are still being interviewed. So, we really don't have much information as to why," said Capt. De La Campa.
The San Francisco Police Department has not commented.
