The crash happened just before 3 a.m. when a FedEx big rig and a sedan collided. One of the two drivers involved was killed.

"Upon our arrival, paramedics on scene were working on the driver of the sedan. A Hispanic male adult who was pronounced dead on scene," said CHP Ofc. Matthew Hamer.
The accident shut down southbound 880 in Oakland for five hours. Vehicles were forced to exit at 66th Avenue near the Oakland Coliseum. The shut down created a huge back-up and plenty of frustration. We heard a few drivers yell out expletives at the CHP officers as they passed the scene.
"Because somebody did die on the freeway this morning, we feel it is our duty to shut down the freeway to comb through all evidence and the entire scene to ensure that the victim, the victim's family -- that everyone gets the best service from the CHP," said Hamer.
It also took a while for the tow truck team to upright the FedEx trailer. The truck didn't lose its load, but we asked FedEx about the contents. A spokesman said:
"In cases of damaged freight we have measures in place to immediately recover as much as possible and to communicate with our customers."
