CAMPBELL, Calif. -- A two-alarm fire destroyed 16 cars and caused extensive damage to a carport early Friday morning in Campbell, according to a fire captain.

A vehicle fire was reported at 2:48 a.m. in the 400 block of Dover Way, according to Fire Capt. Bill Murphy with the Santa Clara County Fire Department.

On scene, fire fighters observed five vehicles burning under a carport and called for a second-alarm response.

The fire was under control by 3:30 a.m. No injuries were reported and no residents were displaced.

Firefighters were able to save six vehicles that might've otherwise burned.

The incident remains under investigation, but the cause of the fire has been deemed to be accidental.

One lane of eastbound Hamilton Avenue will be closed this morning while crews are still on the scene, according to Murphy.
