SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Fire crews responded to the scene of a gas main break in San Francisco Thursday afternoon.

PG&E has since stopped the gas leak, but not before a fire started and one person was injured.

The gas leak was first reported at 2:35 p.m. between Pierce and Steiner in Alamo Square, when officials say a third-party construction crew struck a PG&E service line.

The 12-inch gas main caught fire, and one person suffered minor injuries.

Evacuations were ordered on one side of Fulton St. This is right by the famous "Painted Ladies" houses.

San Francisco Police Department was at the scene directing traffic control.

As of 4:30 p.m., gas service has been shut off to two buildings, 1086 Fulton where the gas incident occurred, and 1080 Fulton next door. PG&E anticipates the gas service to 1080 Fulton will be restored within a few hours.

Gas service to 1086 Fulton will remain off as PG&E crews evaluate the damage to determine what repairs will be needed and then make those repairs.

Further details were not immediately available.
