Birds being rescued by Oakland Zoo after falling from trees

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Springtime means it's nesting season, and in downtown Oakland, they're dealing with an issue of new hatchlings falling out of trees.

The Golden Gate Audubon Society is once again teaming up with the Oakland Zoo to come to the aid of those who don't make it.

Often when the birds hit the hard concrete they can't get back up in the trees because they are pruned so tall.

The birds are then taken to the International Rescue Center in Fairfield where they are assessed for injuries.

Once the birds are well enough and deemed ready to fly and fend for themselves they will be released back into the wild.
