Officers were still at Hoover Middle School on Park Avenue as of about 1 p.m., where they said they took a juvenile into custody and seized a loaded handgun.
Police were initially alerted to the situation at 10:21 a.m. No threats were made and there is not any ongoing threat to the school or its surrounding area, police said.
No further information has been released about the case, though police said the investigation is ongoing.
