Heavy rain, wind create dangerous conditions in the South Bay

LOS GATOS, Calif. (KGO) -- Major downpours and gusty winds created dangerous conditions around Los Gatos Tuesday morning.

The good news is that the Guadalupe River should stay below flood stage, but on University Avenue next to Vasona Lake and park, another mudslide blocked lanes in both directions.

Several large tree limbs came down around 6:30 a.m. on Thomas Drive near Union Aveune wiping out a telephone pole. Power was wiped out in the neighborhood until PG&E could fix the pole.

People living in the area were grateful the damage wasn't worse. "We're just very very fortunate and feel very lucky that nobody was hurt. As you can see it damaged our neighbor's house, and went through their kitchen, so we're just really thankful," Los Gatos resident Sarah Schiltz said.

The Guadalupe River was expected to crest later Tuesday, but more rain in the forecast will have residents keeping a watchful eye on all the waterways in the South Bay.
