Special meeting to be held on earthquake concerns at school in Alameda

ALAMEDA, Calif. (KGO) -- A special meeting is now set for tomorrow after engineers discovered a potentially dangerous situation under a school in Alameda.

They say if a strong earthquake hits, the soil under Lum Elementary would be vulnerable to liquefaction, meaning school building could collapse.

Lum Elementary is expected to close. The district is trying to figure out what to do about student enrollment. The district says it discovered the problem while preparing to build a new classroom building.

The district has set up a website to keep the community informed.
