There are 30,000 headstones at the national cemetery; each represents a child, brother, a parent, or a friend.

Several Boy Scouts troops came out two days earlier to plant flags in front of each headstone. Families came to decorate the graves with flowers today.
Arthur Andreas was in the Korean War. His father and two brothers were also in the military. "I did not have to sacrifice my life; I didn't have to get anywhere close to being shot at. I am just honored to be here," Andreas said.
Daniel Burnett brought his three children. "Just to pay respect to all the folks who have died in service for our freedom," Burnett said.
Americans have been celebrating Memorial Day for 149 years.
