Orlando topped the list released by personal finance website WalletHub, which ranked the nation's 100 largest cities according to how good of a New Year's Eve experience revelers can expect. San Francisco, Atlanta, San Diego and Scottsdale, Ariz. rounded out the top five.

The rankings were determined by looking at a number of factors, including the price and availability of parties, legality of fireworks and even the weather forecast. Taking all of this into consideration, the bottom three were Jersey City, Newark, N.J. and North Las Vegas (not to be confused with Las Vegas, which was in the top 10.)

The study also broke down the rankings by category. If you're looking for the cheapest parties, those can be found in Greensboro, N.C. If you're planning a last-minute getaway, Tucson, Ariz. has the best New Year's Eve prices for 3-star hotels. As for the most nightlife options per capita, that can be found in Portland, Ore.
If you're trying to get a head start on your resolution to save money in 2016, WalletHub's experts recommend planning ahead in every way possible. As you make your plans, be on the lookout for inflated prices on New Year's Eve "specials" in bars, restaurants and hotels and try to avoid them. Rent evening attire instead of buying, and consider requesting a ride home right at midnight or later in the morning to avoid hiked up transportation costs.
