NFL to commit $89 million over 7 years to social justice causes

The NFL has agreed to commit $89 million over seven years to social justice causes considered important to African American communities.

Our sister network ESPN reports the league office will contribute to projects dealing with criminal justice reform, law enforcement-community relations and education.

The NFL hopes it will end the controversial movement started by former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick when he refused to stand for the national anthem.

The agreement does not include language calling for players to end protests during the national anthem in exchange for funds.
