Oakland fire hot enough to be detected from space

The massive Oakland blaze that destroyed a building under construction Friday morning was hot enough to be detected from space, according to a tweet from the National Weather Service.

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- The massive Oakland blaze that destroyed a building under construction Friday morning was hot enough to be detected from space, according to a tweet from the National Weather Service.

The 4-alarm fire was detected on the GOES16 satellite and had an estimated temperature of roughly 900 kelvins, which translates to roughly 1,160.33 degrees Fahrenheit.

That's hot.

Officials are still investigating the origin of the flames.
