Nearly 9 million tons of plastic wind up in the ocean every year-- the equivalent of a dump truck full every minute of every day. The debris threatens creatures like sea turtles.
One was found with a plastic straw up its nose.

This week, the Steinhart Aquarium at the California Academy of Sciences, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium are among 19 taking a stand nationwide.
