PETALUMA, Calif. (KGO) -- A Petaluma man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he intentionally launched a mortar-style firework at a neighbor's home during an apparent dispute.

The incident happened Sunday on Colwood Drive and was captured on a home security camera. Video shows a firework traveling from one property and striking the roof of a neighboring house before exploding.

"It was loud. We thought a car blew up," said neighbor Anthony Farias. "My car was going off. What the hell just happened?"

Farias said his parents' security camera recorded the entire incident.

"We just see the fireworks thrown from that house to that house right on the roof," he said. "We caught it all on camera. Crazy."

Homeowner Pamela Gutierrez was out of town when the firework struck her home but said she immediately began receiving text messages and video clips from family members who were inside at the time.

"Shock, shock. For a moment, I was frozen," Gutierrez said.

Her family heard the explosion but initially did not know what had happened.

"They didn't know. You hear a loud explosion, you don't know what's going on or what it could be," she said. "As a parent being across the country, I needed to get home right away."

The explosion burned a hole through the roof. Repair crews were working on the damage Thursday while an insurance adjuster inspected the property.

"The insurance adjuster is up there right now looking at the damage, but my husband measured a four-inch hole in the roof," Gutierrez said.

According to Petaluma Police Department, officers responded to reports that a resident intentionally launched a mortar-style firework toward a neighboring home following an ongoing dispute.

A 43-year-old man later surrendered to police and was arrested. He was booked on multiple felony charges, including criminal threats, arson and vandalism.

"Right now, we're doing our due diligence and letting the police do their investigation," Gutierrez said.

No injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing. Details on the possible neighbor suspect are unclear.
