Red Flag Warning, high fire danger
The first Red Flag Warning in the Bay Area since November 2024 has been expanded to include the East Bay Hills and the North Bay mountains. A Red Flag Warning will also be in effect for northern Solano County and much of the Sacramento Valley Wednesday and Thursday.
The highest risk will be Thursday morning between 1 and 8 a.m. Winds weaken significantly by the middle part of the Thursday.
Any new fires that start could exhibit extreme fire behavior and rapid rates of spread.
The high fire danger is coming from a combination of the hottest temperatures far this year, gusty winds, and very low humidity.
Several days of hot weather
Wednesday will see temps 10 to 20 degrees above above average in the 80s and 90s across much of the region. A moderate heat risk will develop in the afternoon (level 2 out of 4 according to the NWS).
Heat intensifies Thursday and for many Inland cities, this will be the hottest weather so far this year.
Inland temperatures will soar above 100 degrees, more than 25 degrees above average for this time of the year. Around the Bay shoreline we expect widespread 80s and 90s. A moderate to major heat risk (level 2/3 out of 4 according to NWS) means precautions need to be taken to stay cool and stay hydrated.
Heat relief will arrive beginning Saturday.
Surf and flood advisory
Wednesday and Thursday we will have rough surf along our coast leading to the increased risk of sneaker waves and rip currents. Beaches will be popular to beat the heat, so a Beach Hazard Statement is in effect. A coastal flood advisory is also in effect tomorrow and Friday around the Bay shoreline. High astronomical tides during sunset each evening could create low lying flooding.
