Crews start clearing infamous Berkeley encampment after judge allows eviction to move forward

BERKELEY, Calif. (KGO) -- The City of Berkeley is clearing an encampment along the Harrison corridor on Tuesday after a judge allowed the eviction to move forward.

The city posted notices along the Harrison corridor on Friday requiring tents, structures and other property to be removed.

A judge's order allows the closure to proceed, with exemptions for some people who are protected by a federal court order.

The Berkeley Homeless Union said it will be at the site Tuesday to help people through the eviction.



The encampment closure is expected to move forward under the terms outlined in the judge's order.
