More than a month after 36-year-old Fairfield woman Chantel "Cici" Brooks was last seen, police said they now believe her disappearance involved foul play.
Brooks was last seen on July 17. Fairfield police said they have served dozens of search warrants and enlisted state assistance in the investigation.
According to investigators, surveillance video captured Brooks at 12:20 a.m. July 17 leaving her job as a desk clerk at Hotel Le Nain on the edge of San Francisco's Tenderloin. At 1:45 a.m., she was seen wearing the same clothing while leaving a CVS pharmacy on East Travis Boulevard in Fairfield. Her whereabouts have been unknown since then.
The announcement that detectives suspect foul play came as family members continue searching for answers.
"We were cleaning out her apartment and her condo, and when we finished, everyone were checking their phone, like hold on, what's going on? Is there new information that we didn't find out about?" said Brooks' brother, Kevin Robinson.
Speaking Tuesday, three of Brooks' brothers said they have organized several events to raise awareness about their missing sister and believe she is still alive.
Police have not publicly disclosed why investigators now believe foul play was involved.
"I'm mad, I'm frustrated, I want to hurt somebody, I don't know who to hurt, right? You know what I mean? Because it's like, I want my sister back, that's all I want is my sister back safe," said Brooks' brother, Calvin Robinson.
"Do we think it was an accident? We're looking into the accident part and all of that, but as for the drugs and the suicide, no, we know 120% my sister wouldn't hurt herself," Kevin Robinson said.
"My sister, our sister's a really bubbly person, she's very outgoing, she loves to shop. I just want my sister back, man," said Brooks' brother, Omar Hassan.
Fairfield police confirmed that Brooks' vehicle, a black 2021 Infiniti SUV, was last detected by a Flock camera in Oakland. The vehicle has not been found.
When asked whether Brooks had ever expressed concerns about her workplace or people she encountered there, Hassan said, "Not at all."
"As a family, we don't have any concerns with the environment she worked in. Like, everyone loved her down there," Kevin Robinson said.
Brooks' family said they remain hopeful someone will provide information that could help locate her.
