Florida dog gets hurt protecting owner from bear

Monday, November 24, 2014
A Florida community is rallying behind a tiny dog after she had a rumble with a black bear. Her family says it happened because the dog stepped in to protect them.

Daisy the Dachshund is recovering now after coming snout to snout with a 200 pound bear.

She's a little banged up, but her owner says it could've been much worse. The bear actually came to attack her and her young son.

Krystal Long, Daisy's owner said, "As I was unloading the car, I heard a noise and turned. There was a bear. I was fearful for my life so I started screaming."
That's when Daisy stepped in between her owner and the bear.

Now, she has to undergo a couple of expensive surgeries before she's back to 100 percent.

The owner has some friends who are stepping up to help, donating hundreds of dollars toward Daisy's recovery.
