Fuel spill crash snarls traffic on westbound I-80 at MacArthur Maze in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- A major crash and fuel spill at the MacArthur Maze in Oakland has caused significant traffic delays Tuesday morning, with lanes blocked and no estimated reopening time, according to traffic reports.

The two right lanes on the westbound Interstate 80 connector ramp were closed following the crash and fuel spill, which triggered a SigAlert.

Traffic was backed up all the way to El Cerrito as of 7 a.m., as motorists encountered heavy congestion in the area. Traffic cameras from Ashby Avenue showed vehicles bumper to bumper.

Authorities had not provided an estimated time for the lanes to reopen.

Drivers were advised to leave early and consider alternate routes, including Highway 24, Interstate 580 and local city streets. BART was also suggested as an alternative transportation option for commuters.

The traffic disruption remained ongoing Tuesday morning as crews worked at the scene.
