"I know and love this district. I know the Congress, and I know Connie," Pelosi said. "I'm proud to endorse Democrat Connie Chan and ask you to join me in electing her to Congress."
Pelosi is retiring at the end of her term next January, after more than 40 years in office. Chan is considered one of three leading contenders for her seat.

ABC7 Eyewitness News is sitting down with all three candidates this week. Fresh off Pelosi's endorsement, Chan joined us live to discuss her campaign and her vision for the future of San Francisco.
Chan told ABC7 that health care remains a major burden for many residents.
"The burden of healthcare, burden for medication. And that people have to choose between either groceries or medication," Chan said. "This is a moment not that only we have to reverse cuts to healthcare, we have to expand coverage for healthcare."

She added that the Affordable Care Act - which Pelosi helped pass - "built a great foundation for us to push to the next step," and said it is a coalition she intends to continue in Washington, D.C.
