Inmate death at Martinez jail ruled as suicide

MARTINEZ, Calif. -- A deputy sheriff at the Martinez Detention Facility discovered a male inmate inside his room hanging from a bed sheet late Saturday afternoon.

The Deputy immediately notified jail medical staff and started CPR. Medical staff arrived and took over life-saving measures.

The fire department and an ambulance also responded. The inmate was pronounced deceased.



The 38-year-old Walnut Creek resident is not being identified at this time.

The in-custody death protocol was invoked. This case is being jointly investigated by the DA's Office and Office of the Sheriff.
