Yggdrasil Urban Wildlife Rescue said it is currently caring for a stowaway marmot that was found near 16th Street and Albion Street.
The rescue organization is asking for help from residents in the area who may have recently returned from Lake Tahoe or another mountainous region. Staff members are hoping to determine how the animal arrived in San Francisco and identify where it came from.
According to the rescue group, marmots are known for climbing into vehicle undercarriages, drinking radiator fluid, then passing out and later waking up in locations far from where they entered the vehicle.
Rescuers hope to reunite the marmot with its home once its origin is determined.
