Novato police said they began investigating 57-year-old Charles Ramon Huff after a teenage girl contacted authorities.
"We worked with the victim, the family, and, with some investigative techniques, we were able to identify Mr. Huff as a suspect in this case," Novato Police Sgt. Wes Carroll said.
The Mill Valley resident was arrested Sunday after being released from Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
Investigators said they could not provide information about why he had been hospitalized. Now police are urging parents whose children may have interacted with Huff to speak with them.
"If parents did have him as a coach, please speak with your child if there's any moments that seemed odd or out of the normal," Carroll said.
Court documents allege Huff abused a 14- or 15-year-old girl from October 2025 until May 2026.

The Marin County District Attorney's Office indicted him on three counts of lewd acts with a child, along with a special allegation that he was in a position of trust.
Police said the allegations were not related to Huff's role as a basketball coach.
"This did not happen at official facility, court or, field, where an organized sport was happening," Carroll said.
"Our goal is when we do push this information out, we want victims know we will protect them," Carroll said.
