Around 3:40 a.m., the vehicle entered the BART tracks about 100 feet south of the Pittsburg/Bay Point station. First responders confirmed an occupant of the vehicle died in the crash.
BART service was shut down between the Antioch and North Concord/Martinez stations during the response to the crash and bus service took people between the affected stations during the closure, agency spokesperson Jim Allison said.
Train service resumed in the area as of 7:40 a.m. after the vehicle was removed and crews made repairs to the trackway and nearby fencing, Allison said.
The crash is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol, he said.
