PG&E said at around 9:45 a.m., during a routine operational procedure between two San Francisco substations a protective device on the system activated, "and there was an outage."
PG&E said about 9,400 customers in the Richmond and Golden Gate Park neighborhoods were impacted by the power outage. As of noon, approximately 2,500 customers remain out. At 3 p.m., 1,595 are without electricity.
Earlier Saturday, the public utility map initially showed the Presidio, Golden Gate Park and Richmond District impacted by the outage affecting 120,938 residents.
PG&E later issued a statement to ABC7 Eyewitness News saying, 120,000 received the power outage notifications, but "120,000 customers were never out of power."
ABC7's Cornell Barnard is at the scene, and says stop lights are not working. The outage has not only impacted residents, but also businesses. PG&E crews are also on scene, fixing the power lines, Barnard reports.
PG&E said power was originally supposed to be fully restored at 12:30 p.m. It has changed several times to 2:30 p.m., and now 4:30 p.m.
