PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KGO) -- All passengers are safe after a plane traveling from Oakland and carrying a team of doctors crashed near an airport in Central California, officials say.

Investigators say the plane overshot the runway at the airport in Porterville just before noon on Tuesday. That's in southern Tulare County.

Officials say six people traveling from Oakland to Porterville were on board the aircraft. The Porterville Municipal Airport says a team of four doctors was traveling to perform surgery, but no patients were on board.

When the Tulare County Sheriff's Office arrived, deputies found smoke coming from the plane in a field near the airport.

Luckily, all six people on board were able to get out safely.

Officials are now investigating the cause of the crash.
