The show mixes humor, heart and the suspense of sport as it highlights the football team, the fans who love it and the town that makes it all possible. It's been renewed through its eighth season.
Reynolds and Mac attended an Emmys "For Your Consideration" event in Los Angeles and told On The Red Carpet that the success of the show is due to the people of Wrexham and the documentary team that has become like family as they capture every moment.
"What I find incredibly gratifying is once they're embedded in Wrexham, they fall so deeply in love that it's so hard to pull them back out, Reynolds said of his documentary team. "We've earned the trust of the town and the reward of that are that people are incredibly forthcoming when it comes to the doc. they really share their hearts and their stories in a vulnerable way because they know the story will be told responsibly and they know we're here to listen and share their stories."
"I feel a profound responsibility to the town and to the club to be honest, to point a spotlight and a camera in their direction," added Mac. "It's been a great honor for us and to be awarded in the way that we have is incredible but it's not us, it's the doc team and the members of that town that open themselves up."
"Welcome to Wrexham" premieres May 14 with the first two episodes of season five airing on FXX and Hulu at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and on Disney+ internationally. New episodes will drop weekly.
