SF's Lowell High baseball team required to forfeit games, replace head coach after racial incident

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The San Francisco Unified School District will require Lowell High School's varsity baseball team to forfeit games and replace its head coach following a racial incident involving the team last spring.

The district released findings from its investigation Sunday during a virtual meeting.

According to SFUSD, the incident involved alleged race-based taunting by varsity players who attended a junior varsity game.

The California Interscholastic Federation also conducted an investigation and found that Lowell High violated sportsmanship rules.

As a result, three games will be forfeited, and the school will hire an interim head coach.



In a statement, SFUSD said, "There is no place for racism, discrimination, or radicalized harm in the Lowell community or anywhere in the district."

The disciplinary measures follow the district's investigation and the CIF's findings related to the incident.
