The fire occurred in the area of Geary Boulevard between Scott and Steiner Streets just before midnight.
This is in the Western Addition neighborhood near Japantown.
At one point early Monday morning iver 1,200 were without power, but as of 7 a.m. that number was down to only five cusomers, PG&E said. There was no estimate on restoration for those customers.
Video shared by a viewer who goes by Rob Deezy and posted on TikTok showed flames near KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy at Scott Street and Geary Boulevard.
In the video, the viewer can be heard saying, "Oh my God, it is really burning now. We're getting nothing but black smoke now guys."
San Francisco Fire Department Capt. Mariano Elias said the incident involved a vault fire. Firefighters and PG&E crews responded to the scene and allowed the fire to burn itself out, according to Elias.
Elias said the fire appeared unlikely to affect classes at KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy on Monday.
"The fire is now completely out its extinguished itself and now the traffic will arise soon it will be not a problem for commuters and school and kids to arrive on scene," Elias said.
Officials expected traffic conditions in the area to improve as the scene cleared.
