Forward progress stopped on vegetation fire burning in Napa Co., CAL FIRE says

NAPA COUNTY, Calif. -- Evacuation warnings that were prompted by a vegetation fire burning in rural Napa County were lifted Wednesday afternoon and forward progress on the fire was stopped by firefighters, CAL FIRE said.

The Steele Fire started at about 10 a.m. in the 9400 block of Steele Canyon Road and was first measured at about 70 acres, according to CAL FIRE officials.

An update on Wednesday afternoon tagged the size of the fire at just 45 acres.

The fire is burning in steep terrain south of Lake Berryessa and evacuation warnings were issued at about noon and then lifted at about 1 p.m. for Zone BER-E008, which is east of Steele Canyon Road, west of Wragg Canyon Road and north of State Highway 128.

People are being asked to use caution when traveling in the area. More than 100 fire personnel are currently on scene, along with two helicopters and 19 fire engines.
