Tourists flock to watch elephant seals give birth at Point Reyes

POINT REYES, Calif. (KGO) -- The new year brings with it one of the Bay Area's amazing natural events.

They show up twice a year at Drakes Beach in Marin County.

Elephant seals, an object of amazement and curiosity, come by sea.

The humans who come to watch, especially out-of-towners, by automobile and bus.

They both show up for pup season, when the seals give birth to their babies.
