In Livermore, an outage affecting approximately 4,601 customers occurred just before 3 p.m. The cause of the outage is under investigation.

PG&E is taking action trying to handle a power outage that popped up in this extreme heat. It's staging crews in the hottest spots so they can respond quickly.

ABC7 News was in Walnut Creek Tuesday morning, where over a thousand people were without power.

Police said the outage was partly to blame on a tree branch that cracked and took out some power lines along Amberwood Lane.
On nearby Bancroft Avenue, traffic lights were out and that added some congestion to the morning commute because it's a connector to Ygnacio Valley Road.

Monday night, the outages were affecting more than 2,000 customers, down from a peak of 19,529 on Sunday, PG&E officials said. The number of outages Sunday, was the highest PG&E has experienced due to heat since July 2006, utility officials said.
