Storm makes for messy mountain commute along Highway 17

Thursday, December 15, 2016
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KGO) -- The evening commute along Highway 17 was a messy and slippery one with signs reminding drivers to slow down lit along the winding road.

Wind and rain knocked a tree limb onto a power line along Bean Creek Road causing 80 residents to lose power. But PG&E crews were ready. "This is the first one, but we are just getting started. So we will probably be going all night keeping people energized," Logan Schaefer said.

A Flash Flood Watch was posted for the Santa Cruz Mountains as areas where the Loma Fire burned close to 4,500 acres this past September and October remain vulnerable to mud slides.
