The situation started at around 2 a.m. when Redwood City police received a report of domestic violence at a home on Windsor Way.

Police found an injured woman outside the home. She was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities have identified the suspect as retired Redwood City Police Officer James "Jim" McGee.
"He was a Redwood City police officer," Lt. Sean Hart with the department told ABC7 News. "He had 28 years of experience with the Redwood City Police Department. He's been retired for several years."
Police went door-to-door early Thursday morning to tell neighbors to lock all doors and shelter in place. Officers also issued a voluntary evacuation order in the area of Windsor Way and Madison Ave, off of Alameda de las Pulgas.
At one point, Redwood City police created a ramp to gain entry into the home of the barricaded suspect.

"We knew that he had police training and that he was aware of police tactics," Lt. Hart explained. "So, we approached it in a manner that would hopefully be the safest way to resolve it."
ABC7 News spoke to neighbors in the area that say the ordeal was stressful. Roads in the area were closed and officers have been posted in neighbors backyards all day.
Neighbors also said this is not the first time police have been called to the house.
Lt. Hart said McGee is going to be booked into the San Mateo County Jail for a domestic violence charge. The case will be forwarded to the San Mateo County District Attorney for prosecution.
