San Francisco Police say 45-year-old Sgt. Phil Sanchez was booked for negligent discharge of a firearm, vandalism of 400 dollars or more, assault with a firearm and shooting in an inhabited dwelling. Richmond Police Department says the officer is on administrative leave and there will be an internal investigation.

His attorney says San Francisco Police took Sanchez from the hospital where he was being evaluated to county jail Monday afternoon where he was later released on bond.
In a 2015 Richmond Police Department promotion photo, the caption says Officer Sanchez was a veteran officer with 17 years of total law enforcement experience who was promoted to Sergeant.
In an emailed statement, Sanchez' Attorney Harry Stern writes, "By all accounts this incident is completely out of character, thus we are attempting to ascertain exactly what took place and why."
According to scanner traffic, Sanchez had been walking erratically through the hotel, talking about spirits and stating his wife was inside the room, but that he didn't want to go inside.

In his emailed statement to ABC7 News, Stern also writes, "Witnesses report statements and behavior which may indicate a mental health episode. Everyone is extremely thankful that no one was injured."
Police sources tell ABC7 News Sanchez fired the gun on a floor that was under construction.
According to scanner traffic, the reporting party heard approximately six or seven gunshots on the 17th floor of the Four Seasons.
It took nearly two hours for Sanchez to surrender. The San Francisco Police Department says he surrendered peacefully.
