Low Salmon supply this fishing season due to drought, experts say

Federal wildlife officials say Salmon fishing season will be extremely limited this year.

That's because there are historically low numbers of adult Chinook salmon in the ocean.

Wildlife experts blame the impact the drought had on California Rivers and ocean food sources.

The recreational fishing season opened in the Bay Area on April 1, 2017, but will close for several weeks beginning in May.

Also, new this season, commercial fishing will only be open for most of August and all of September.

Fishing groups plan to ask the governor to declare a disaster so they can seek federal aid.
