The park was packed with families, children and tourists when the gunman or gunmen opened fire on the pedestrian bridge off Church Street around 3 p.m.

It's no secret the park is popular on the weekends especially a warm weekend like this one. Police will assign two extra officers to the park from early morning until after dark to help ease everyone's concerns.

One witness describes his close call.

"Literally, just a moment of glimpsing up and seeing one person raising their gun to my face - that's when 6 or 7 rounds got shot off - and I just took off running. Two people got hit behind me and luckily I only had a fragment stick to my pants, so," said Hatter, witness.

Police say the shooting does not appear to be random. The suspect or suspects are still on the run.
