SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- The San Jose City Council is moving ahead with a pilot program to try out new high-tech street lights.
The question is if the technology will include cameras.

"We have no intention to deploy cameras at any point during the pilot program," said San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo. "What we know is that we need to have a privacy policy in place before we even go down that road."
The city council has approved a pilot program to replace street lights with more cost-effective LED lights.
