SAN FRANCISCO -- Emergency crews from PG&E began repairs on a natural gas line near the intersection of Duboce Avenue and Castro Street on Wednesday morning after shutting off the gas following a leak.

A 16-inch water main broke, which is believed to have caused the leak in the gas line, according to the San Francisco Fire Department. Residents and businesses in a one-block radius of the intersection were evacuated following the leak, which was reported by the fire department at 6:35 a.m.

Residents who are experiencing gas outages in the area can call PG&E at (800) 743-5000.

Those who were evacuated Wednesday have been allowed to return to their homes, SFFD says.
