"We have to keep up the fight," says Silicon Valley Pride President and CEO, Thaddeus Campbell. "Now is not the time to sit back and rest on our laurels."
Police say they'll have additional officers assigned to the festivities at Plaza de Cesar Chavez downtown, as well as adequate patrols throughout the city.
"Everyone can come here, have a good time, enjoy themselves, and feel like they can be safe," said Sgt. Enrique Garcia with the San Jose Police Department. "We are around and ready for anything."

Volunteers have also gone through de-escalation training to serve as 'peace ambassadors' for the event if such a response is needed.
"I'm not only expecting the LGBTQ community to come out and celebrate who we are but also our allies," says Gabrielle Antolovich, Executive Director of the Billy DeFrank LGBTQ Community Center.
This year's event is divided into three main portions. The 'night festival' will be held on Saturday at the park from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

On Sunday morning, more than 1,000 people are expected to march in the 'pride parade' starting at 10 a.m. along Market St. Local companies such as Netflix and Amazon will be participating.

Pride attendees will also be able to attend the 'day festival' from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
"More than ever, I think it's totally worthwhile," says Jean-Marie White, Netflix director of engineering. "Showing up, and make sure that people see us."
Admission costs $5 per day or $6 per day with a credit card. Children ages 12 and under are free. All tickets will be sold at Plaza de Cesar Chavez.
