NEVADA CITY, Calif. -- On the western slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the historic Emigrant Gap, you'll find Camp Marin-Sierra, a 320-acre private Scouting America summer camp. The location boasts forested campsites, a warm alpine lake, and 75 years of scouting history. [br /][br /]"Marin-Sierra is a fantastic scout camp put on by the Marin Council that's been in existence since 1950," Scout Executive and CEO Michael Dybeck said. "Hundreds of kids can come in during the course of the summer and enjoy scout camp. Learn new skills. Make new friends. Develop as leaders. Develop as better human beings." [br /][br /]To celebrate their diamond anniversary, Camp Marin-Sierra hosted a staff alumni reunion. [br /][br /]"We do these celebrations to really remind ourselves how important this is over one generation to the next," Dybeck said. [br /][br /]As staff members across various decades arrived, they immediately reconnected with the location.[br /][br /]"Even just driving in, you get that little like anxiety and excitement building up inside of you," former staff member Mary O'Donnell said.[br /][br /]"You open your car door, and the aroma from the trees just brings back all the memories of the good times here," staff alumnus and 1953 camper Irving Schwartz said. [br /][br /]"The trails. The dust. The people. It just hits you right in the nostalgia," staff alumnus Shamus O'Donnell said.[br /][br /]Visitors relived some of their favorite camp experiences, such as archery, rifle shooting, nature walks, and relaxing canoe rides on Chubb Lake.[br /][br /]"We've been reminiscing about all the various things that we remember," former staffer and 1950's camper Barry Evergettis said.[br /][br /]"It's cool seeing the legacy. I get to see so much history, hear so many stories," current staff member Jordyn Mines said.[br /][br /]As the reunion came to a close, attendees left once again with memories and a renewed appreciation of their time at Camp Marin-Sierra.[br /][br /]"Learning new skills that I didn't have when I started in scouting. Those skills I have today, and they've been with me all my life, 90 years," Barry Evergettis said.[br /][br /]"I think it's tremendously important to have a place like this because there are so few opportunities for kids to be able to develop those types of character skills and leadership skills," Dybeck said.[br /][br /]"People will come here and make their own adventures, their own experiences," former staff member and 1969 camper Fernando Silva fondly said. "Marin-Sierra is a place that no one ever forgets."[br /][br /]For more information about the camp, visit, [url HREF="https://www.boyscouts-marin.org/camping-facilities/camp-marin-sierra/4056" TARGET="_blank" REL="nofollow"]https://www.boyscouts-marin.org/camping-facilities/camp-marin-sierra/4056[./url]
