A five-vehicle crash on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge was cleared within an hour and a half but snarled traffic during the Bay Area's commute hours this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision was reported at 5:47 a.m. on westbound Interstate Highway 80 just east of Fremont Street on the Bay Bridge, CHP Officer Tracy Hoover said.

One person was injured but the extent of injuries was unknown, CHP Officer Kevin Kroncke said.

The No. 5 lane was blocked while emergency personnel tended to the scene, according to Hoover.

A Sig-alert issued at 6:26 a.m. was canceled at 7:09 a.m., but traffic remained congested, Kroncke said.
