Authorities say the deputy broke his collarbone when his motorcycle crashed after hitting a patch of gravel in an unincorporated area of near Livermore Wednesday evening.
The deputy was transported to a hospital by helicopter.
The car that the deputy was trying to pull over is described as a red or maroon coupe, possibly a Honda or Toyota.
