Shark kills surfer near Mexican coast

Man's left hand was bitten off in attack
ACAPULCO, Mexico The latest incident involved a 21-year-old man surfing west of Acapulco Friday. Local authorities say the shark bit off the man's left hand and broke one of his legs.

The attack comes less than a month after a San Francisco man died after being bitten by a shark while surfing off another Mexican beach. The day after that attack, authorities used baited hooks to catch sharks in the area.

Environmentalists opposed the hunt and have demanded that authorities post signs in the area's beaches warning about sharks.
